The direction of the East holds the energy of the intellect and delves into the realm of Thoughts. Stepping into the East is the beginning of knowing who the "self" is. Through this discovery we are able to make a new beginning and become prepared for the remainder of our journey.

The quality embraced by the East is that of enlightenment and truth. Through the East we begin to see where we are - we receive insight that comes from our understanding that our human existence is interwoven with all things. Here we find the courage to extend our visions - to see the broader picture of our lives. Here we gain perspective.

The totem of the East is the Eagle. The Eagle soars high and has the ability to see great distances. Eagle receives inspiration from Great Spirit, and brings balance into our lives. Another totem of the East is Dragonfly, who is the shatterer of illusions and heralds transformation through the power of truth.

The element of the East is Air - the Wind. Wind is movement and freedom - the clearing of thoughts and the carrier that allows us to manifest our dreams. Wind reminds us of the power of things we cannot see or touch. Air represents the power of the mind.

The color of the East is yellow. Yellow is the color of the solar plexus chakra, and brings us the energy of adventure as this energy is the first stop in connecting us to the hub or our center.

The Kingdom associated with the East is the Human Kingdom. Here we see the dual nature of man - child of earth reflecting the magic and power of the Great Mystery.

The time period of the East is the present. It is important to see what is before you with clear eyes and to set your intention with knowledge of the truth. The power of the present lies in the quality of that moment - that is why it is important to live "in" the present moment. This is where you begin to show up for and get present to your life.

The season of the East is Spring. Spring is the awakening of new life. It is becoming aware of what lies within ourselves and what lies outside of ourselves. Thoughts are something we put into our bodies and then our bodies respond by presenting us with a feeling about that thought. We create our thoughts and then they create our life. Use the time of the East to see what you have been creating and where you are headed in your life.
